Catalytic converter theft is rampant in New Brunswick. Thieves crawl under a vehicle and cut the converter free using a tool like a portable angle grinder. SUV’s and pickup trucks are especially at risk as they are higher off the ground.

Catalytic converters are a valuable target for thieves because of the precious metals they contain. Victims are often on the hook for thousands of dollars in replacement costs.

Catalytic converter theft is a crime of opportunity. Protect your vehicle by parking it in a garage, a fenced-in area, or a well-lit location where the crime can be easily seen or heard.

If you are the victim of catalytic converter theft, please report directly to your local police.

If you have any information on catalytic converter theft or any other crime, and wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS, or online at crimenb.ca.

The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent and solve crime.
