Crime Stoppers and the New Brunswick Department of Public Safety – Conservation Enforcement Unit are requesting the public’s help regarding illegal hunting activities in Elgin, New Brunswick.

Poachers have been night hunting and hunting out of season, both major offences under the Fish and Wildlife Act. This practice takes unfair advantage of our wildlife and is unsafe and dangerous.

On the night of November 28, 2020 poachers shot and killed a resident’s dog possibly due to misidentifying the dog as a coyote.

On the night of December 5, 2020 at approximately 01:30 am, a deer was shot in front of a residence in Pleasantvale (Elgin). The suspects drove to the field and took the deer. The residents were unable to get the description nor the plate number of the vehicle as the suspects fled at a high rate of speed.

Both night hunting events had shots fired within meters of several homes. Shooting near homes in the dark is a serious safety concern and the residents are concerned for their own safety.

These individuals are intentional poachers who have no regard or respect for wildlife nor the safety of the residents in the area. The Conservation Enforcement Unit and N.B. Crime Stoppers is reminding you that many citizens in our province condemn such activity.

If you have any information concerning these illegal hunting activities and wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App, or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
