Crime of the week: Inner Bay Atlantic salmon

Fundy National Park and its partners are again releasing hundreds of wild, endangered inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon to their native rivers to spawn.

Inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon are protected under the species at risk act. To help ensure the protection of the Atlantic salmon during their fresh water life stage, local law enforcement agencies are working together as part of the Atlantic salmon law enforcement coalition. This coalition has increased joint patrols and surveillance on Bay of Fundy Rivers, especially those in which there are active recovery efforts.

Fines for individuals harming, catching or harassing this endangered species range up to $250,000.00 with a possibility for imprisonment.
