Crime Stoppers and the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) are seeking the public’s help to identify potential Ponzi schemes operating in New Brunswick communities. This type of scam has been responsible for the majority of investor losses in cases investigated by the FCNB.

The most common type of Ponzi scheme is where someone raises significant amounts of money by offering a high rate of interest to other individuals in the community. Often the interest rate offered is 10% per year or more, and the person raising the funds will provide a promissory note or loan agreement in exchange for the money. Sometimes the person borrowing the money will do so directly, or they may employ representatives to offer the investment to a wider circle. Ponzi schemes usually involve people who know each other.

The FCNB has resources to investigate and stop potential ponzi schemes; visit to learn more.
