Crime of the Week: Illegal Coastal or Airport Activities
Crime Stoppers and the New Brunswick RCMP’s Coastal and Airport Watch Program are asking New Brunswickers to be vigilant of suspicious and irregular activities along the coasts and around remote airstrips.
New Brunswick has approximately 550 kilometres of coastline and numerous remote airstrips. Criminal activity by individuals or organized crime groups such as smuggling of drugs, contraband tobacco, or human trafficking can take place with little or no public attention.
The public is asked to pay attention to boats operating at odd times or without proper lights and markings, boats of foreign registry in remote or secluded areas, and small vessels hovering around larger vessels. Indications around remote airstrips would include aircraft landing after hours or without proper lighting, aircraft with covered windows or not displaying proper markings.
The RCMP encourages everyone to play a role in keeping our province safe and to report all suspicious activity.
